Generating limitless possibilities in a world divided

I am going to begin by stating the obvious. We are a world divided. Divided has come to be equated with diversity. Divided is not good. Diversity is.

How are we divided? Often the divides are framed as dualities – rich-poor, black-white, brown-black, yellow-brown, red-white, female-male, young-old, gay-straight, urban-rural, labour-management, right wing-left wing, north-south, east-west. The list is limitless. These are also the labels of diversity.

Divided often leads to loss. Diversity has incredible potential for gains.

Where there is diversity there is often conflict. Conflict because of opposing interests, emotions, and activities. The conflict can separate us so that we create divides and maintain divides from each other. When we are divided from “the other” we lose opportunities. What lost opportunities? The list is limitless.

What we need instead of division is symbiosis. Our definition of symbiosis comes from the study of healthy relationships in nature. Symbiotic relationships are defined as happening between one or more entities and is mutually beneficial for all the participants. Inherent in this definition is heterogeneity -- diversity. The participants benefit from each others’ differences. Where there is symbiosis there is diversity, where there is diversity there is range and variety, and where there is range and variety there are limitless possibilities.

Conflict arising out of diversity can divide us, or we can use it as a catalyst for opportunities that result in gain. What opportunities for gain? The list is limitless.

Knowing this, how do we minimize loss and maximize gain – in our businesses, our communities and our personal lives? How do we generate limitless possibilities?

The answer is: You identify opportunities for symbiotic relationships, you build these partnerships, and then you go onto manage them so that they are sustained.

How?

That’s where Watt Communications © comes in. We work with you to identify opportunities where there is division, and then we help you to build, manage and sustain partnerships that create value. We help you to generate limitless possibilities!
